Hurray for Pre-K! The Pre-K class is for children four to five years of age.
Children at this age are energetic, inquisitive and eager to learn. The Pre-K teachers strive to meet
children’s individual needs while preparing them for kindergarten.
We use seven developmental domains outlined in the Delaware Early Learning Foundations in planning our
weekly curriculum to ensure success. The children in the Pre-kindergarten classroom use an independent
management system to move freely between hands-on learning centers. Learning centers include, but are
not limited to, science, art, math, manipulative, dramatic play, construction, writing and language,
library, sensory and computers.
Examples of activities might be planting a root-vue garden to observe the life cycle of a plant in science,
sorting and stringing colored macaroni to develop patterning pre-math skills while also improving
fine-motor skills, creating dramatic play scenarios such as the Whitehouse Oval Office during Fourth
of July week, and learning the letter of the week with related sounds and activities for language skills.
We believe that the parent/guardians are the child’s first teachers and work to partner with families
in the child’s education. We provide regular communication with parents/guardians, and individual
child assessments and family-teacher conferences twice a year based on observations and work samples
in conjunction with the Teaching Strategies Gold online assessment program. Our goal is to help you
and your child be prepared for Kindergarten in a fun, educational and enriching environment!
