NDNCC offers a full day, developmentally appropriate program, as well as part day programs that wrap
around your child’s public school kindergarten program.
Our full-day curriculum is based on the Early Learning Foundations for School Success, developed by
the State of Delaware. Our Kindergarten program meets/exceeds the DE State standards to prepare
students for first grade.
Children are encouraged and guided in their exploration of math, language arts, writing, art, social
studies, science, and computers. Our learning centers allow hands-on experiences in a relaxed
environment. Examples of centers might be creative writing from prompts such as "If I were a ladybug...",
a social studies project of creating a paper mache’ universe ball on Earth Day, and measuring our heights
with string and comparing the results to the lengths of sharks and dinosaurs in math center. The children
are not rushed through their work, but are given the opportunity to work at an individual pace. Working
in small groups fosters social skills such as sharing, taking turns, cooperation and respect for others.
We help the children to develop problem solving skills to handle conflicts.
We support an active learning environment with plenty of time for outdoor exploration. We spend time on our
playground or woods as outdoor classrooms each day.
Parent involvement is important for a successful year. Parent-teacher conferences are held twice a year
as a formal way to discuss the child’s development, monitored with the Work Sampling System assessment tool.
Classroom visits, field trips, and class parties are also some great ways to spend time with us!
